GPGR4
4th International Symposium on
Genomics of Plant Genetic Resources
VENUE
September 3-7, 2017 – Giessen, Germany
All conference sessions, industry and poster exhibitions, lunches, and networking events will be held at Kongresshalle Giessen, Berliner Platz, 35390 Giessen.
The small university town of Giessen, located on the banks of the river Lahn in the centre of Germany, is highly accessible for international travellers via the nearby Frankfurt International Airport (around 1h by train or 40 mins with a taxi shuttle).
As a conference location, Giessen offers very reasonable prices for hotel accommodation, dining and entertainment. The conference venue is conveniently located, within easy walking distance (or just a few minutes with public transport) from almost all local hotel accommodation. Eating out in Giessen typically costs no more than €15-25.
Giessen’s central location and excellent train connections will enable delegates to travel to tourist destinations around Germany and Europe before or after the conference. Giessen itself was largely destroyed during the second world war and lost most of its historic architecture, however the small-town atmosphere and green surroundings offer visitors a relaxed environment ideal for networking and interaction with other conference participants. For example, just five minutes walk from the conference centre you can visit Germany’s oldest botanic garden, a green oasis at the edge of the city centre between the old city castle and the 17th century “Zeughaus”. Quench your thirst and get away from the city at the 12th century Schiffenberg monastery, in the forest on the city outskirts just a short bus-ride (or a relaxing 45 min stroll) from the conference venue. The nearby mediaeval settlements of Marburg and Wetzlar, around 15 minutes away by train, are also popular local destinations for short day-trips.

Subway trains to Frankfurt central station ("Frankfurt-Main Hauptbahnhof") leave every 15 minutes from platform 1 at the airport railway station. At Frankfurt central station, change to a regional train which will bring you to Giessen in another 40-50 minutes.
Local transport
